State Policies are the highest level of policy in Tasmania that influence the planning system, and are made under the State Policies and Projects Act 1993 (the Act).
They set the Tasmanian Government's policy on matters of state significance about sustainable development. There are currently three State Policies:
- State Policy on the Protection of Agricultural Land 2009
- State Coastal Policy 1996
- State Policy on Water Quality Management 1997
National Environment Protection Measures (NEPMs) are a special set of national objectives designed by the Australian Government to assist in protecting or managing aspects of the environment. They are taken to be State Policies in Tasmania.
