Because many planning issues are connected, the Tasmanian Planning Policies (TPPs) should be read as a whole. They are also intended to be flexible, rather than prescriptive. This recognises that a one-size-fits-all approach does not suit an entire state. While lower order planning documents are expected to implement the TPPs, there will be flexibility in how each organisation goes about it.

Offering this flexibility allows greater scope for collaboration, innovation and adaptation, as well as recognising that each place is unique. The TPPs will invite people to think about the interconnected nature of the land use planning issues in their area. They will allow interested parties to exercise their best judgement in developing the policies, strategies and projects in their local area.
