The TPPs were developed with significant community and stakeholder consultation.

The process began in 2021 with the release of a Scoping Paper for public comment. This invited input from anyone in Tasmania about what the TPPs should cover. The State Planning Office (SPO) released a summary of the submissions received in February 2023.

Working with other state agencies and local government, the SPO prepared a draft of the TPPs. Following the steps set out in the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 (LUPAA), the draft TPPs were sent to the Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC) for public exhibition. They were on exhibition through the TPC from 28 March to 26 June 2023.

The TPC considered submissions and prepared its report and recommendations to the Minister.

The Minister is currently considering the TPC recommendations. Before making the TPPs, the Minister can accept, modify or reject the TPPs, but must publicly give reasons for any decision.
